Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KK3UGF2JO7TU This is a video of a couple of laps around the John Rose Oval shot at 10 PM under artificial lighting. I plotting that the images were excellent with probable wide angle distortion.
I bought this camera to record my speed skating at the John Rose Oval in Roseville, Minnesota. Most of my skating sessions are from 9:20 to 10:25 PM. The lighting is similar to a baseball or football field. I had some concerns about reviews that said that this camera was not that excellent in low light situation but the images looked excellent to me.
In terms of ease of use, I don't reckon you can really beat this camera. The instruction manual is infinitesimal and you are up to speed on the available reins within a very small period of time. One of the frequent criticisms of the camera is wind noise coming owing to in the video. It turns out that you can preset the sound level with the software that comes with the camera as a download off the MicroSD card.
I had the most distress figuring out the mounting system since it was not obvious that it was stuck together with velcro and I did not know how much pressure to exert to pull it apart. I also did not have any goggles that seemed to work, but used an ancient belt that I cut down and strapped outside of my cap.
After shooting the first video, the playback on the editing software did not go as smoothly as using other software that I had on my pad. The downloads to Facebook and YouTube went very well.
All things considered this is a high value camera that produces feature video. In my case I am using it at night in cold ride out and it performs flawlessly.

| Fantastic camera for the money. Have used the camera a few times on my 06 cbr 600rr and the video couldn't be clearer or smoother. The product seems very lasting as i've already dropped it once onto the pavement and no hurt only a small scrape on body. I was worried that the mount might fall off at high speeds on the highway but not the case at all- very secure on my helmet. Simple to start recording and stop recording. High upload speed on my macbook pro- but when I was trying to upload on my friends much slower dell- the pad just could not handle the high feature video and the video came out REALLY choppy- unwatchable even. So make sure you have a pad that can handle 1080 videos. Also the curriculum they include to upload and edit the videos(I believe it's called simple edit) is absolutely useless when editing 1080 videos as the video plays VERY choppy and VERY grainy when using the software- I use imovie and it works very well. One gripe about the camera which im sure everyone knows about is the wind noise. Whatever thing above 35 mph and you get lots of wind noise. I place some tape over the mic hole and it helped a small but still WAY too much windnoise. I'm gonna try to place one of those foam things that go over earbud headset over the mic hole and see if that does anyything. They need to have the option of an external mic. But, other than the wind noise which affects ALL similar camera's this is definetly a fantastic helmet cam. |
WOW!!! Just the exact wearable video camera!

| I just took this new camera out for a ride in the CA desert on my dirt bike today. Wow! The setup and ease of use is remarkable (all camera config is done via their simple edit software), the goggle mount worked just perfectly. You can use the software it comes with for simple cuts and montages and media management but if you want to edit on your own, the camera simply shows up as an external drive on a PC to pull off the video files. Image feature is fantastic and more than what you need for the application - i'm using max data rate. Captured about 2 hours of footage on a charge - didn't need any more, i foresee the extra battery being elemental for all day rides though. If you're capturing peak feature HD resolution at the max data rate you will need the 16GB card as well. The toughness and facial advent are fantastic - when it's mounted the laser guides help you dial it in perfectly so you know the management/angle you are shooting before you head out. I'll have this camera out plenty in the snow as well! |

So after much debate I finished up alternative up one of these small guys at a local seller in the Bay Area. I'm gonna say that so far I'm absolutely satisfied with the amount of money I spent on it. Its lightweight, seems pretty lasting and is super simple to use. The slider switch is kinda stiff to the ungloved hand, but with a gloved hand the added traction causes it to operate with no hesitation. I use it for motorcycling. The flat surface mount works fantastic so far on my helmet (a slight curvature of the helmet) just have to find the 'sweet spot' to stick it in. typically this will also result in a excellent forwards facing mind-set/angle, the camera is seeing what you're seeing.
Video feature is superb, no complaints. It really is as excellent as they're saying it is, most of the other reviews i've read seem to amplify the negative qualities. the fisheye effect at 135 degree field of view is really not noticeable unless you get right up on a touch then it'll distort but other than that, its rather pleasant and simple to watch. recording at 1080p you have a 110 degree field of view. I have noticed that when you point the camera directly at the sun it causes a vertical strip to appear... some sorta digital manufactured article due to being keen directly at the sun, but other than that there is no lens flare or ghosting. at it only really occurs when you have the sun directly in the frame. pretty normal for the size sensor that's in there.
Audio feature... 5/10. cuz when your permanent still or walking its excellent. picks up your voice, depending on the where it is/and the microphone gain settings. on a dirt bike, whatever thing quicker than 10mph is just wind noise. really excellent wind noise at that, no distortion or any sort of choral. so be set to invest in a way to dub music over the video if you're really into showing off your adventures.
Software. 5/10. Free software, available from their website. The only real gathering it provides is being able to setup the camera. Encoding the hi/lo switch, mic gain, exposure, metering, sharpness, draw a distinction.. other than that its honestly useless unless you really want to participate in Vholdr's online convergence. but hey, thats why i have youtube and facebook. so the movies come off the camera really more like accessing a flash drive. The software has rudimentary video editing abilities. in other words, you can cut the beginning and ends off of a video but thats it. just to show the excellent stuff in the middle. It works excellent for what it does but thats all it does, you know?
By and large? I like it. Its exact for what it does, its not intricate, and you can stick it to just about whatever thing. The inquiry remains, do you really need 1080p? as a motorcyclist, i deemed amount over feature and realized in hindsight that being able to record at 720p/30fps and have 30min/gig was more useful than 15min/gig at 1080p/30fps. but then again, i really like the 720p @ 60fps feature too for those small rides where i know i can fit it all on a 16gb card and have that lush video at 60fps. maybe more appropriate for those snow/ski people doing mad tricks and they can playback in nice liquid slow-mo those awesome jumps yeah? just need to buy video editing software to make it all come together. |
